It is a free platform with over 250 million users who can talk in voice, video, and text chats. Although it became famous in the area of video games, it is also helpful for all people who want to meet to talk about everyday topics and share similar interests. In it, you can create servers or join others already available and make live broadcasts or discussion forums.

It is one of the most used applications to date since it has approximately 14 million users connected per day. For this reason, in this post, we will review everything you can do in it so that you do not stay without being part of this community.

What is Discord?

Discord is a social platform that mixes the features of other professional tools such as Slack, Reddit, or Skype. It is an ideal application if you want to meet with friends to talk through its written, voice, or video chat functions.

Discord currently has versions for PC and mobile devices, making it a very versatile platform that, in addition to its variety of functions, is available to all audiences.

Communities are organized through servers, which can be public or private. In addition, you can have several channels simultaneously, such as one for an intimate conversation with friends, another for games, or include yourself in various public media of interest to you.

How to sign up and start using Discord

Discord offers you the possibility to register through any of its formats. However, we will explain how to do it from the web this time.

Step 1: Create your account

To get started, go to www.discord.com/ and click the top right “Login” center option. Once you have done so, a section will open where you must click on “Register” to continue.

Step 2: enter your data.

To start your registration process, you must enter the basic information: email, username, password, and date of birth. Also, do not forget to accept the terms and conditions before continuing.

Step 3: Create your first server

Once you complete the steps described above, the platform will welcome you and take you to the interface where you have all the features it offers. You can configure it with the tutorial they provide by pressing “Start” or clicking “Skip” and continuing on your own.

How to create a server

Now, if you are going to create a server without using the platform tutorial, for this you must follow the following instructions:

Step 1: Press the “+” symbol.

Once you are in the main panel of Discord, go to the green “+” symbol in the area located on the left side and click on it.

Step 2: Select the type of server

Once you are in the options panel to create a new channel, the platform offers you two options. The first is to make your template according to your characteristics if you need to fulfill specific purposes. And the second is to create it from a series of predetermined templates that range from “School Club” to “Local Community.”

Step 3: Create your server

If you decide to press “Create my template,” you must select if the channel is dedicated to you and your friends or if you want a community. If you are unsure about either option, you can like “You can skip this question for now” at the bottom.

Step 4: Give your new server a personality.

Now, this is one of the most important steps since the name of your server, and the photo is what will define the essence of your community. So choose one consistent with the topic they will work on or something in common that connects them as a channel.

Step 5: Invite your friends

After you finish the above steps, you will have created your new server, and it’s time to invite your friends and send them your first message to start the discussion.

To invite your friends, you have to click on “Invite your friends” so that the platform provides you with an invitation link that you can share with them on other social networks. In turn, you can schedule important events in case you need to carry out particular discussions, training, or game activities.

Step 6: Create your new channel

Once you have the server, you can start creating the different discussion channels that will be classified according to voice or text channels. For this, click on the “+” symbol depending on the type of channel you want.

Step 7: Choose the characteristics of your channel

Discord will now ask you to provide channel type (Text or Voice), channel name, and type (public or private). Once you select everything, press “Create channel.”

Step 8: Assign roles to your collaborators

If your channel is made up of a community in which there are other collaborators, the platform allows you to assign roles according to their functions. You only need to enter the usernames and the type of role they will have in the discussion.
